The game, which is most widely played in all casinos around the world, is Blackjack or twenty one or pontoon and popularity of this game is mostly due to the fact that there is always a chance of winning. On top of that if your skill increases, then the probability of winning also increases.

While going through the rules of blackjack, one thing that must be told is the value of each card. The spot card ranges from 2 to 9, the 10 and jack, queen and king counts 10 each and the ace can be counted as 1 or 11 depending on the players’ choice. The rule to play is that all the players bet some amount with the dealer and receive two cards initially. Then, he has to play his hand in such a manner that without getting busted (without going over twenty one) he acquires more number of cards, than the dealer. Whoever gets busted first looses the game. If it is the dealer, who gets busted first, then he loses to all the players and if there is a tie, then no one wins and if neither of the cases happen, then one with higher number of cards wins. It is not always the case that if the dealer gets busted, he loses to all the players; it may happen that he may lose to some while beating other players.

There are basically four standard options for a player, after receiving his initial two cards. They are Hit, Stand, Double Down, Split-a-pair, and in some casino, you may have the option of surrender also and all these options are exercised using hand signal.

Hit means taking another card until he is not above twenty, while Stand means to stay and not to take any more card. In double down – a player doubles his bet and then receives only one card. Split-a-pair means, if the players’ initial two cards are of same value, then he can go for the Split-a-pair. He again has to bet with the same value and the player gets two separate hands to play. Surrender, which is provided as a fifth option in some of the casinos, means that without playing his hand, a player can surrender and will only lose half of the bet amount, after the dealer has checked for blackjack.

Before going to play blackjack, one should inquire about all the rules governing the game because though there are some universal rules, there can be some rules, which are made by that casino itself and they are not always mentioned or posted. Probability of winning increases, with the increase in deck, as it affects the house advantage; but if you are a basic strategy player, then you should go for fewer decks.

There is also a side bet called Insurance, which is up to half of the original bet and you are offered with this option only when the dealer has got his first card as an ace. In the case of insurance, if the dealer has got a blackjack, then you win the insurance and if not, then you can still win or lose the bet while losing the insurance for sure.
